Iréne SMIRNOVA

Born in Russia in 1970, Irène studied art since the age of 10. Always passionate about arts and literature she trained in different art studios in Moscow specializing in Old Masters techniques. She received a Bachelor Degree in journalism and literature from Moscow State University. In 1992 she settled in Montreal where she continued her studies in arts and in 3D graphics. Irene started her artistic career in film and television and quickly became successful with her fascinating digital models and landscapes for Hollywood films.

Her landscapes and characters are inspired by antique photos and fragments of memory. Her poetic and enigmatic world shows the complex theme of our relationship with time. Each layer of paint Irene uses is a metaphor showing the movement of time. She uses different supports like wood, canvas, papyrus and paper. Her work is a poetic reflection of the fragility and beauty of our existence.
