Lucie St-JEAN

Through my paintings, I wish to make you hear my interior music, the music that moves me and makes me authentic. It sometimes sounds dramatic but doesn't take itself too seriously. However, it is always filled with poetry. Poetry allows creating, going from non-being to living by giving existence to things.

Among my influences is the painter William Turner. I've always been fascinated by his paintings, rich in atmosphere allowing to dream and freely imagine one scenario or another. He liked painting the atmosphere between two elements; my approach is rather to paint a subject and the atmosphere surrounding it. I use colour and texture to capture the space, and the line to define my own poetry. I appreciate the painter Edgar Degas for being able to stand out from his era by painting scenes happening around him and not only scenes from a distant spectator's viewpoint. Finally, I admire Salvador Dali, for his thinking, for his paintbrush that carries the subject further and further.__I paint for pleasure and for the need to express my personal emotions without seeking the same emotions in the spectator. On the contrary, if my work awakens your personal emotions, my goal is that much more attained.

I considered myself as a self-taught artist, even with the workshops I followed. I always keep searching for new and different approaches in my work.
