Luigi TIENGO

Mr. Luigi Tiengo, after a successful career as a furniture designer, and after gaining several provincial and national design awards in Canada, returned in 1971 to the love of his life: that is painting. In 1926, he was born in Adria, a city near Venise, Italy. As a young man he studied industrial design and at the same time he received lessons in watercolor from one of the regions best painters, Antonio Tumiati.

The watercolors and acrylics of Mr. Tiengo reflect that joy and that enthusiasm he puts into his work. He paints outdoors in the car, in his canoe and also in his studio, adapting his techniques to different places and subjects. These vary from views of Montreal, where he and his wife live, to the Eastern Townships, where they spend prolonged periods of time on their farm near Ayer's Cliff. He has also painted in several other regions throughout Canada and the United States and in Italy; there he especially likes the Alps. He believes that art should not be parochial and that a painter should not limit himself to a place and a subject.

He has had several one-man shows in Montreal, Adria (Italy) and the Eastern Townships. His paintings are hanging in several private and corporate collections in Canada, Italy, Germany and the United States. He is a founding member of the S.C.A., la Société Canadienne de l'Aquarelle.
